2012, the Hunger Games, and Other Apocalypses

Attention major, minors, and all interested students: you are all invited to a mid-semester event next Monday, October 22 at 4:30 pm in MC 208.  It will be an opportunity to talk to professors about next semester’s offerings, find out what we expect to offer this summer and next year, and generally get to know other Truman students in the progam.  If you are considering a major or a minor, this is an excellent chance to find out what it’s all about!

The event will be capped by a talk by Dr. Dereck Daschke, Department Chair, called “2012, the Hunger Games, and Other Apocalypses.”  He will discuss the persistence of apocalyptic belief in cultures and explore the popular and entertainment sides of it through the success of the books and films in the Hunger Games series and the excitement over doomsday date-setting, as in the Mayan 2012 “prediction.”
