Students in Islam course travel to St. Louis mosque

October 29, 2014

Truman students enrolled in the PHRE Islam course taught by Dr. Appold recently took part in an all-day field trip to the Daar ul-Islam Masjid int. Louis. The mosque is the largest in St. Louis and includes also a day school for elementary level children. Following a noon lunch in the Pakistan Saffron Restaurant, students toured the main area of the mosque and noted characteristic architectural features of the building. Observation of the noon prayer service and a two-hour question and answer discussion with Sister Maysa, visitation coordinator, filled the afternoon. One surprise in the field trip was the tour of the Al-Salam Day School and the introduction to its newly installed principal, Mudir Abdul-Mun’im Jitmoud. It turns out that both he and his wife were students at Truman back in the early ’80’s and had taken classes with Dr. Appold.
