Funding for travel to national undergrad research conference

October 10, 2013

Dear PHRE students,

I write to encourage you to consider presenting your current research at NCUR this spring. The deadline for submitting an application is October 25. There’s nothing like participating in a conference of your peers to discover your own voice and to experience the impact you can make as a scholar. Don’t pass up this exciting opportunity! If you have a paper or project underway, please talk with your academic adviser or mentor as soon as possible. All the information about applying for funding is below.

Truman State University has a long-standing tradition of sending students to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research to present their research, scholarship, and creative activities.  We will continue that tradition this year by supporting student attendance at the 28th Annual NCUR Conference in Lexington, KY, to be held from April 2-5, 2014.

Funding of student participation and the coordination of all travel arrangements will be handled through the Office of Student Research (OSR).  Students who wish to receive financial support from the University for NCUR travel, registration, and lodging must submit an application to the Office of Student Research; we expect to be able to provide support for up to 25 students.

OSR-Funded Travel to NCUR 2014

  1. Students who wish to apply for funding from the Office of Student Research for travel to NCUR 2014 must submit a completed application including an abstract by 11:59 PM on Friday October 25, 2013.  A copy of the application form can be found at the OSR website at http://osr.truman.edu/ncur.  Abstract guidelines can be found at http://www.cur.org/ncur_2014/ .
  2. The Office of Student Research will rank the applications and award travel funds to no more than 25 students.  Priority will be given to senior students, students who have not previously attended NCUR, and students who will not have the opportunity to present their research elsewhere (except for Truman’s Student Research Conference).  Applicants will be notified whether or not they have been awarded funding via email no later than November 8, 2013.  Students who are denied funding from the OSR are encouraged to seek alternative sources of travel funds.
  3. After a student has secured funding for travel to NCUR 2014 (whether through the OSR or from some other source), he or she must submit their abstract to NCUR through the NCUR web site (http://www.cur.org/ncur_2014/) by the December 6, 2013 deadline.  Please note that students will be responsible for submitting their own abstracts to NCUR.  Abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of faculty at the University of Kentucky, and students will be notified whether their abstract has been accepted by NCUR by January 14, 2014.
  4. The Office of Student Research will contact all students who have been accepted by NCUR to present at the conference in January 2014, and will coordinate registration and travel for the entire Truman group.
