{"id":2082,"date":"2026-04-01T13:42:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T18:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/presoffice\/?p=2082"},"modified":"2026-04-01T17:08:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:08:52","slug":"update-proposed-change-to-missouri-higher-education-funding-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/presoffice\/2026\/04\/01\/update-proposed-change-to-missouri-higher-education-funding-model\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Proposed Change to Missouri Higher Education Funding Model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Truman Community:<\/p>\n<p>I want to update you on the status of the higher education FTE funding formula proposed by House Budget Chair Deaton. \u00a0The House of Representatives barely advanced its version of the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget, containing the FTE funding formula.\u00a0 The House version now moves on to the Senate, where it has already been met with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.komu.com\/news\/state\/higher-education-funding-overhaul-finds-low-support-in-missouri-senate\/article_10d8d9ed-5d67-4336-bcc9-542e5d75d784.html\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">strong bipartisan opposition and weak support<\/span>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of Truman\u2019s biggest supporters is our Senator, Cindy O\u2019Laughlin, who also serves as President Pro Tempore.\u00a0 She shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/17MXa8jqjQ\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">message of support<\/span><\/a> last week, noting that Truman prepares exactly the kind of graduates we need at this time.\u00a0 Senator O\u2019Laughlin has been a staunch advocate for Truman, and we are very grateful to have her support in the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>For weeks, I and our lobbyists in Jefferson City have been meeting with members of House and Senate leadership, members of the House Budget Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee, and the Governor\u2019s Office to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/about\/our-people\/presidents-office\/regarding-potential-changes-to-state-appropriations\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">provide a clear understanding of who Truman is, what we do, and our impressive accomplishments; why our funding is the way it is<\/span><\/a>; and our support for a funding formula that contains relevant outcome measures and works for all Missouri public colleges and universities.\u00a0 Through our efforts and those of our higher education colleagues, including the University of Missouri, other four-year universities, and the community colleges, we are making great strides in our advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>The next step in the <a href=\"https:\/\/c3c5e312.delivery.rocketcdn.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-Missouri-Budget-Process.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">budget process<\/span><\/a> is for the House Budget bills to be assigned to the Senate Appropriations Committee.\u00a0 While there are no guarantees, the FTE funding formula is not expected to be included in the Senate version of the state budget, so there is no expectation that Truman will lose 53% of our funding.<\/p>\n<p>I am so appreciative of all the people who have expressed support for Truman.\u00a0 We have an amazing extended Bulldog family.\u00a0 I will keep you updated, and you can check out the <span style=\"color: #800080\"><a style=\"color: #800080\" href=\"https:\/\/c3c5e312.delivery.rocketcdn.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/FAQ-FINAL.pdf\">FAQs<\/a><\/span> added to the website.\u00a0 I expect to have positive news to share in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>With great Truman pride,<br \/>\nSue<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Truman Community: I want to update you on the status of the higher education FTE funding formula proposed by House Budget Chair Deaton. \u00a0The House of Representatives barely advanced its version of the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget, containing the FTE funding formula.\u00a0 The House version now moves on to the Senate, where it [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":711,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2082","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
