{"id":1469,"date":"2018-12-03T11:56:07","date_gmt":"2018-12-03T17:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/presoffice\/?p=1469"},"modified":"2018-12-03T11:56:07","modified_gmt":"2018-12-03T17:56:07","slug":"invitation-to-upcoming-events-and-december-board-of-governors-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/presoffice\/2018\/12\/03\/invitation-to-upcoming-events-and-december-board-of-governors-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Invitation to Upcoming Events and December Board of Governors Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Colleagues:<\/p>\n<p>As we enter into the last few weeks of the Fall Semester, it is with\u00a0great pleasure\u00a0that I\u00a0invite you to participate in\u00a0the following\u00a0upcoming events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Faculty and Staff Holiday Reception \u2013 Wednesday, December 12<\/em><\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Our\u00a0annual Faculty and Staff Holiday Reception will\u00a0take place\u00a0on December 12\u00a0from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at the University Residence located at 706 South Halliburton.\u00a0 I look forward to celebrating Truman and the holiday season with you!<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Fall Commencement \u2013 Saturday, December 15<\/em><\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em>Truman&#8217;s Fall Commencement Ceremony is\u00a0right around the corner and it is time to cheer on our newest Truman alums!\u00a0 The ceremony will be held on December 15 at 11:00 a.m. in Pershing Arena.\u00a0 We will celebrate approximately 300 baccalaureate and master\u2019s degree candidates and their families, and\u00a0Dominic Armstrong, a 2002 alumnus and established international vocal artist,\u00a0will be our Commencement Speaker and Vocal Soloist.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Casual Dress and Departmental Food Exchange Days &#8211; Thursday and Friday, December 20-21<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>December 20 and 21 are designated as Casual Dress and Departmental Food Exchange Days.\u00a0 This annual tradition has grown quite popular and provides a fabulous opportunity for faculty and staff to mingle and dine on some very good food.\u00a0\u00a0Those offices who do not have a food table are more than welcome to join the President\u2019s Office celebration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>December Board of Governors Meeting<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our\u00a0Board of Governors\u00a0met\u00a0on Saturday, December 1, under the leadership of Board Chair,\u00a0Cheryl J. Cozette.\u00a0 The Board elected officers and assigned committee membership for the 2019 calendar year.\u00a0 New officers who will take office for a term of one year commencing at the first regular meeting of the calendar year are:\u00a0 Chair, Laura A. Crandall; Vice Chair, Jennifer Kopp Dameron; and Secretary, K. Brooks Miller.\u00a0 The Board also recognized former Governor Susan Plassmeyer for her service on the Board from 2012 to 2018.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting,\u00a0Kara Jo Levery, Chair of Staff Council, provided the annual Staff Council report.\u00a0 Dr. Jim Black, President and CEO of SEM Works (the firm chosen as our enrollment management consultant), shared the results of his review and provided a progress report on the work taking place on campus.\u00a0\u00a0I provided a President&#8217;s Report highlighting campus and community activities that have occurred since the last meeting of the Board.\u00a0 In addition, the Board reviewed financial reports,\u00a0received an\u00a0update on construction projects, and heard reports from their three committees.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of action items, housing and food plan charges effective with the 2019 Fall Semester were approved.\u00a0 Due to an increase in utilities and fringe benefits, the Board approved an overall average increase of 1.5% in the room rates and an average increase in meal plans of 2.8% to offset anticipated operating costs such as the minimum wage increase and utility costs.\u00a0 The overall increase for on-campus housing\/food under typical circumstances\u00a0will be\u00a02.6%.\u00a0 Based upon feedback from over 650 students, there will be several new meal plan changes including Sunday evening meals, meal transferability to Chick-Fil-A, additional serving days each semester, and an increased value of meal transferability.<\/p>\n<p>Last, but certainly not least,\u00a0the Board approved faculty sabbaticals for the 2019-20 Academic Year. \u00a0Please join me\u00a0in congratulating\u00a0the following faculty members:<\/p>\n<p>2019-20 Academic Year<br \/>\nVayujeet Gokhale, Associate Professor of Physics<br \/>\nSara Orel, Professor of Art<\/p>\n<p>2019 Fall Semester<br \/>\nPeter Ramberg, Professor of History of Science<\/p>\n<p>2020 Spring Semester<br \/>\nJoseph Benevento, Professor of English<br \/>\nJohn Quinn, Professor of Political Science<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to\u00a0hearing about\u00a0the impactful outcomes of their sabbatical work.<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the open session agenda can be found on the Board of Governors website located at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.truman.edu\/about\/our-people\/board-of-governors\/board-of-governors-agendas\/\">http:\/\/www.truman.edu\/about\/our-people\/board-of-governors\/board-of-governors-agendas\/<\/a>.\u00a0 The next regular meeting of the Board of Governors is scheduled for Saturday, February 9, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Best wishes to each of you for a fantastic end to your semester!<\/p>\n<p>Sue<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Colleagues: As we enter into the last few weeks of the Fall Semester, it is with\u00a0great pleasure\u00a0that I\u00a0invite you to participate in\u00a0the following\u00a0upcoming events: Faculty and Staff Holiday Reception \u2013 Wednesday, December 12 Our\u00a0annual Faculty and Staff Holiday Reception will\u00a0take place\u00a0on December 12\u00a0from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at the University Residence located at 706 South Halliburton.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":296,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1469","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
