Dear Colleagues:<\/p>\n
As you may have heard, the Governor has released his budget\u00a0recommendations for next fiscal year (which begins on July 1, 2018).\u00a0\u00a0Among the recommendations\u00a0was a devastating 17.73% decrease in the core appropriation for public higher education\u00a0institutions as compared to this year\u2019s appropriation after the withholding<\/em>, with the potential to reduce the 17.73% cut to\u00a07.73% through meeting\u00a0the standards of the six new performance funding measures.\u00a0\u00a0Based upon our\u00a0preliminary calculations, Truman should meet\u00a0the standards for all six of the performance funding\u00a0measures.<\/p>\n While\u00a0this recommendation is very distressing,\u00a0please keep in mind that the Governor\u2019s recommendation is the first step in\u00a0the\u00a0state\u2019s budget process and legislative consideration of the recommendation will\u00a0now begin.\u00a0\u00a0We will be actively engaged\u00a0during the legislative session.<\/p>\n Over the past few years, we have been laying the\u00a0foundation to address this significant challenge and we must now take control\u00a0of\u00a0our destiny with increased intensity, focus, and purpose.\u00a0\u00a0I will be discussing the budget situation and\u00a0how we can control our own destiny at the All University Address on\u00a0Tuesday, February 13,\u00a0at 3 p.m. in the SUB Georgian Rooms.\u00a0 I hope you can join me.<\/p>\n Honor.
