{"id":675,"date":"2014-10-09T20:26:10","date_gmt":"2014-10-09T20:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/phre\/?p=675"},"modified":"2014-10-09T20:26:10","modified_gmt":"2014-10-09T20:26:10","slug":"call-for-papers-pacific-u-undergrad-philosophy-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/phre\/2014\/10\/09\/call-for-papers-pacific-u-undergrad-philosophy-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for papers: Pacific U. undergrad philosophy conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\nCALL FOR PAPERS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>19th ANNUAL PACIFIC UNIVERSITY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>UNDERGRADUATE PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE<\/strong><br \/>\n\u200b\u200b<br \/>\nApril 17-18, 2015<br \/>\nPacific University<br \/>\nForest Grove, Oregon<\/p>\n<p>Keynote talk by <a href=\"http:\/\/ase.tufts.edu\/cogstud\/dennett\/\">Daniel Dennett<\/a> (Tufts University)<\/p>\n<p>The 19th annual Pacific University Undergraduate Philosophy Conference will be held April 17-18, 2015 on the campus of Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for the presentation of philosophical work of undergraduates to their peers\u200b.<br \/>\n\u200bPapers are required to be of philosophical content, but there are no specific restrictions on subject matter within the arena of philosophical discussion itself.<\/p>\n<p>Papers should be approximately 3000 words (10-12 pages).\u200b\u00a0 \u200bElectronic submissions, including paper and abstract (Word documents), should be sent to: <a href=\"mailto:boersema@pacificu.edu\">boersema@pacificu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission deadline is February 1, 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Final decisions will be made by February 28, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers for session chairs are also welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Selected papers from the conference will be published in Volume 6 (2015) of the journal <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.pacificu.edu\/rescogitans\/\">Res Cogitans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is strictly an undergraduate conference, with only undergraduates allowed on the conference program.\u200b\u00a0 The single exception is the keynote speaker.\u200b\u00a0 \u200b\u200bPast keynotes speakers have included: Paul Churchland, Hilary Putnam, John Searle, Keith Lehrer, Catherine Elgin, John Perry, Hubert Dreyfus, Jerry Fodor, Alvin Plantinga, Cora Diamond, James Sterba, Peter Kivy, and Walter Sinnott-Armstrong.\u200b\u00a0 This year\u2019s keynote talk will be by Daniel Dennett.<\/p>\n<p>The conference banquet will be on Friday, April 17 and all paper sessions, including the keynote talk, will be on Saturday, April 18.<\/p>\n<p>Travel and lodging information can be found by going to the conference web site at:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacificu.edu\/as\/philosophy\/conference\">http:\/\/www.pacificu.edu\/as\/philosophy\/conference<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Registration costs: $40, payable at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Three meals will be provided: Friday night banquet, Saturday breakfast and lunch.<\/p>\n<p>For further information, contact Professor Boersema via email (<a href=\"mailto:boersema@pacificu.edu\">boersema@pacificu.edu<\/a>) or by phone (503 352 2150) or at the address below:<\/p>\n<p>Department of Philosophy<br \/>\nPacific University<br \/>\n2043 College Way<br \/>\nForest Grove, OR 97116<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CALL FOR PAPERS 19th ANNUAL PACIFIC UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE \u200b\u200b April 17-18, 2015 Pacific University Forest Grove, Oregon Keynote talk by Daniel Dennett (Tufts University) The 19th annual Pacific University Undergraduate Philosophy Conference will be held April 17-18, 2015 on the campus of Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon.
