{"id":595,"date":"2022-08-15T13:49:32","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T18:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/news\/?p=595"},"modified":"2022-08-22T13:53:25","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T18:53:25","slug":"presidents-officethe-start-of-a-new-academic-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/news\/2022\/08\/15\/presidents-officethe-start-of-a-new-academic-year\/","title":{"rendered":"President&#8217;s Office:The Start of a New Academic Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Bulldogs!<\/p>\n<p>I hope your summer has been filled with memorable experiences and you are as excited to start the new year as we are to have you on campus!<\/p>\n<p>As we get ready to start our new year, we know COVID-19 is still present.\u00a0 However, scientific advances have brought us to a place where COVID-19 is no longer defining how we live, learn, and engage on campus.\u00a0 We expect to continue to have cases and we will continue to follow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2022\/p0811-covid-guidance.html\">CDC guidance<\/a>.\u00a0 While there is no mask requirement on campus, individuals may choose to wear a mask at any time.\u00a0 When the Adair County\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/your-health\/covid-by-county.html\">COVID-19 Community Level<\/a>\u00a0is high, everyone is encouraged to wear a mask in indoor public spaces.\u00a0 To minimize the spread of COVID-19 on campus, everyone is also encouraged to be current on their COVID-19 vaccinations and to test prior to returning to campus.<\/p>\n<p>Truman will continue to provide COVID-19 information and resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Possible exposure \u2013 If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/your-health\/quarantine-isolation.html\">follow this CDC guidance<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>Students residing on campus \u2013 Residence Life <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/residence-life\/resident-information\/covid-19-updates\/\">has protocols in place for those who need to isolate.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>All students \u2013 Any student needing to isolate should contact their instructors to make arrangements for their coursework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Testing \u2013 The Student Health Center will conduct COVID-19 tests and has free at-home tests available.\u00a0 You can also order\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.covid.gov\/tests\">free at-home tests from the federal government<\/a>and many area providers also have testing available.<\/li>\n<li>Information updates \u2013 Any COVID-related messaging will be emailed directly to campus and shared on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/coronavirus\/\">truman.edu\/coronavirus<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If we continue to be a thoughtful community that cares for one another, I know we will have a fabulous year.\u00a0 For our new Bulldogs \u2013 we have an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trumanweek.truman.edu\/schedule\/\">exciting Truman Week<\/a>\u00a0ready for you! \u00a0For all students \u2013 I hope you will take advantage of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/welcome-week\/\">fun Welcome Week<\/a>\u00a0activities, especially our brand new kickoff tradition,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsletter.truman.edu\/article.asp?id=33102\">New Year\u2019s Rockin\u2019 Eve<\/a>, from 7-8:30 p.m. on August 21 on the quad.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t wait to see you!<\/p>\n<p>Susan L.
