{"id":655,"date":"2020-03-23T16:29:24","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T21:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/history\/?p=655"},"modified":"2020-03-23T16:29:25","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T21:29:25","slug":"missouri-history-conference-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/history\/2020\/03\/23\/missouri-history-conference-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri History Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students\u00a0<b>Ben Smythe<\/b>\u00a0(MAE history),\u00a0<b>Alexandra Miller<\/b>\u00a0(BA history) and\u00a0<b>Tucker Broadbooks<\/b>\u00a0(BA history) represented Truman at the Missouri Conference on History in St. Louis, March 12, by participating in a panel entitled \u201cNew Perspectives on the Presidency of Harry Truman.\u201d The panel was chaired by\u00a0<b>Jason McDonald<\/b>,\u00a0<b>assistant professor of history<\/b>. Smythe presented a paper entitled \u201cDefying Defeat: Harry Truman and the Presidential Election of 1948,\u201d which was based on research undertaken on a graduate course with McDonald in spring 2019. The presentations delivered by Miller\u2014\u201cTruman the Historian: An Investigation of Foreign Policy in Israel\u201d\u2014and Broadbooks\u2014\u201cTruman and Hoover: Relations between the White House and the FBI during the McCarthy Era\u201d\u2014were both based on archival research completed by them during internships at the Harry S.
