{"id":18732,"date":"2017-09-27T09:03:02","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T09:03:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/hes\/?p=18732"},"modified":"2017-09-13T21:05:52","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T21:05:52","slug":"truman-alumna-shares-her-truman-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/hes\/2017\/09\/27\/truman-alumna-shares-her-truman-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Truman Alumna Shares her Truman Experience in HES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAfter I graduated in 2006, I accepted a job offer at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.\u00a0 In 2011, I opted to go back to school part-time while working at the Cancer Center and received a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate.\u00a0 In 2012 I moved to Gwangju, South Korea, where I taught conversational English to elementary, middle, and high school students.\u00a0 After my return to the US, \u00a0I opted to return to graduate school and in May of 2017, I graduated with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University.\u00a0 I am currently employed in an outpatient clinic which specializes in one-on-one manual therapy.<\/p>\n<p>At Truman I learned to communicate more effectively.\u00a0 I have found that writing and presenting yourself well can open many doors, allowing you to convey important information in resumes and cover letters, scholarship applications, and interviews. In addition, I met wonderful faculty at Truman and in HES specifically who offered advice, encouragement, and a listening ear when I needed it, even 10 years later!\u00a0 I am forever thankful for the caliber of faculty and fellow students I met at Truman.<\/p>\n<p>My education at Truman was really broad; I took Italian classes and studied abroad in Ro<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/hes\/files\/2017\/09\/Mary-Beth-Wims_w-150x150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18733 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/hes\/files\/2017\/09\/Mary-Beth-Wims_w-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>me.\u00a0 I completed research with HES faculty.\u00a0 I combined intense science courses with classes in religion, English, linguistics, and music.<\/p>\n<p>For the lucky individuals who know exactly what they want to do with their lives \u2013 that is wonderful.\u00a0 \u00a0However, for the rest of us, be calm in the knowledge that it\u2019s totally okay.
