After he graduated and commissioned from Truman, he moved to the Bay Area in California. Since that time, Jude has worked for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goarmy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Army<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a>, and, most recently, started at <a href=\"https:\/\/rivian.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rivian Automotive<\/a>. Jude deployed to the Middle East in 2017 in support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inherentresolve.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CJTF-Operation Inherent Resolve<\/a>. In his down time, Jude loves to work on his cars, ride his motorcycle with friends, tinker with retro game consoles, and hike.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What year did you graduate and what was your concentration?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated May 2014 and my concentration was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journalism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2905\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2905\" class=\"wp-image-2905\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-4-e1646090501959.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-4-e1646090501959.png 441w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-4-e1646090501959-207x300.png 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jude and friends on campus (2012).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I commissioned with our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/academic-departments\/about-the-military-science-department\/about-rotc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ROTC<\/a> department and I was in PRISM.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Did you go to grad school? If so, where?\u00a0 Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait?\u00a0 Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, I was commissioned into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goarmy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Army<\/a> right after graduation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your first job after graduation?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Technically I went to my assigned unit the 304<sup>th<\/sup> Information Operation Battalion (Camp Parks, CA) as a Signal Support Officer. Since then, I have held a few different positions within the Battalion. My first civilian job was working at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a> as an Operations Specialist and culminating working as a Proactive Intelligence Quality Engineer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What work do you do\/What are you doing now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now I am at the 303<sup>rd<\/sup> Information Operations Battalion as an IO planner and I work at <a href=\"https:\/\/rivian.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rivian Automotive<\/a> as a Vehicle Specialist.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It helped me the most during my deployment. I worked in a 3-star headquarters. I was working with several different countries in our coalition. I was having to manage vast amounts of data and information, then present our findings and assessments to high-ranking officers and commanders.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2908\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2908\" class=\"wp-image-2908\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-2-e1646090955448.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-2-e1646090955448.png 480w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2022\/02\/Pipta-2-e1646090955448-300x178.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2908\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jude on his first day working for Apple (2014).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a tie between <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=COMM&amp;filter%5B29%5D=170&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=20&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=1182&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public Speaking<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=COMM&amp;filter%5B29%5D=252&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=20&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=1182&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interpersonal Communication<\/a>. The amount of people and audiences I have had to work with and give presentations to would have been insurmountable without these core classes. These were the fundamentals I built on and grew from.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think the highlight of my time at Truman was gaining my Commission. Also branching out and doing things I would never have done when I was younger like participating in the different arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How personal the whole university is. My folks work for a large state university on the east coast, and it is almost overwhelming how big everything is. From the campus size to the class size, everything is large. I am glad I was able to meet everyone in my classes and visit every building on campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What would you say a COMM student should <u>absolutely<\/u> do while at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take classes way outside of your major or comfort zone. I took <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=AGSC&amp;filter%5B29%5D=152&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=20&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=1182&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Introduction to Horsemanship<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=THEA&amp;filter%5B29%5D=275&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=20&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=1182&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Introduction to Theatre Arts<\/a>. Working in tech or the Army is really about who you know. It helps to have someone who can vouch for you or speak kindly of you or some who can have your back.<\/p>\n<p>The next best thing I can offer is \u201cbe valuable to your team.\u201d You will find yourself in jobs or positions you have very little experience in. If you are, try to figure out the way you can have the best impact on your team. I remember one of Dr. Yaquinto\u2019s classes from back in the day. It was a film class and I had very little experience in producing a short film. Initially I couldn\u2019t provide the typical filming or editing support. Then I looked at what the team needed, and I started getting them. I was able to get them cars and locations for the productions from the connections I had made in the area. I was able to jerry-rig other equipment to make shots work. Actually, I miss all the events! There was always a group or an organization having a meet, party, or shin-dig. I wish I had gone to more while I was there.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What tag line would you create for the COMM department at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone needs to communicate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">If you could come back to Truman and teach a class for a semester, what would be its title and what would it be about?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would probably teach a networking in tech seminar titled \u201cTechnically Speaking.\u201d It would focus on how to communicate very detailed and technical information clearly.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What did we not ask that you think is important for people to know?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take the risk.
