Anushri (Thakkar) Fischer (2021)<\/p><\/div>\n

Outside of her role as a Financial Advisor, Anushri serves on the board of The Sharing Shed<\/a> of O’Fallon and volunteers with local animal shelters. She is passionate about serving families in crisis within her community. Anushri and her husband, Erik enjoy exploring the outdoors and they’re avid St. Louis sports fans (Go Blues!). They are also active in their church community and seize every opportunity they get to explore new places and try new recipes.<\/p>\n

What year did you graduate and what was your concentration?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I graduated in 2016.\u00a0 I was a double-major in Public Communication<\/a> and Business Administration: Marketing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I was a memmber of Delta Sigma Pi<\/a>, the co-ed professional fraternity.\u00a0 I also worked for Detours Magazine<\/a>, a part of the Truman Media Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Did you go to grad school? If so, where?\u00a0 Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait?\u00a0 Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

No, but I’m studying for the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) test.\u00a0 I sit for it next July.<\/p>\n

What was your first job after graduation?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What work do you do\/What are you doing now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I am currently a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones<\/a> in St. Charles, MO.<\/p>\n

How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m able to draft concise and thoughtful written communication to my clients as well as present myself as a knowledgeable and credible professional.\u00a0 Having a broad-based education and expertise in communication allows me to do that well.<\/p>\n

Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’d have to say Experimental Methods<\/a>.\u00a0 While I now understand the value in understanding statistical analysis, I wasn’t planning on pursuing a Master’s at the time, so it seemed unnecessary to me.<\/p>\n

What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are a couple of things that I am proud of.\u00a0 First, I was named the School of Business’ Outstanding Marketing Student for 2016.\u00a0 Second, I also graduated Magna Cum Laude.<\/p>\n

Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Truman is big enough to provide an incredibly memorable college experience, but it’s also small enough that you feel immersed in the classroom experience and develop impactful relationships with your professors.<\/p>\n

What would you say a COMM student should absolutely<\/u> do while at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

All students should do something that makes you uncomfortable.\u00a0 Try out something new.\u00a0 For me, that was jumping into student media.\u00a0 I got to write for Detours Magazine<\/a>.\u00a0 I could not have had that experience at other schools.<\/p>\n

What advice would you give someone who wants to go into the same line of work as you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I didn’t know I wanted to be a financial professional while I was at Truman (or even for a couple years after graduation). My best advice: Immerse yourself in internships that allow you to explore different industries, the impact of the work, the core functions, day-to-day responsibilities, and team dynamics, of the workplace.\u00a0 Get the feel for what it is like to work there.<\/p>\n

What do you miss most about campus\/Kirksville?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What tag line would you create for the COMM department at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

If you could come back to Truman and teach a class for a semester, what would be its title and what would it be about?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What The World Can Teach You: This is a class about what life outside of the United States looks and feels like. There is SO much value in having cultural experiences that push you out of the comfort of our own cities and small towns. I’ve been to 9 countries in the last 10 years because I wholeheartedly believe traveling is so educational, inspiring, eye-opening, and just fun!<\/p>\n

What did we not ask that you think is important for people to know?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Truman! I was challenged at Truman and entered my job with confidence in my ability to manage my time well, organize and prioritize the most important activities, and communicate effectively.<\/p>\n
