Over the last few years, she has been inside <a href=\"https:\/\/services.petsmart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PetSmart&#8217;s<\/a> Corporate Hotel\/Grooming Reservation Department as a phone representative and a Supervisor Lead. After two years, she lucked out with an amazing position with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doordash.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DoorDash<\/a> as a Customer Escalations Representative -Tier 3 and worked her way up to a Customer Experience Specialist who troubleshoots internal and external issues. Jes enjoys her free-time by playing Pokemon Go with her two partners, Chance and Lindsay, and relaxing with her cat Loki, and her dog Charmer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What year did you graduate and what was your concentration?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated in 2015 with a concentration in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public Communication<\/a> and a minor in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/german-minor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was a member of <a href=\"http:\/\/truman.alphagammadelta.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alpha Gamma Delta<\/a> sorority, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pspbeta.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phi Sigma Pi<\/a> National Honors Fraternity, Communication Club, Students for Social Change, and <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/LPHTSU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lamba Pi Eta<\/a>.\u00a0 I was an editor for <a href=\"https:\/\/tmn.truman.edu\/blog\/index-print-edition\/index-newspaper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Index<\/a>, a Gamma Chi Sorority Recruitment Counselor, and I was on the 2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/homecoming.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homecoming Committee<\/a>.\u00a0 Also, I was a part time Office Assistant in the School of Arts and Letters, as well as a German Tutor\/Foreign Language Lab Proctor (I liked to keep busy, lol).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2564\" style=\"width: 609px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2564\" class=\"wp-image-2564\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2021\/06\/F266B7E9-B857-467C-BDA3-A90DE1EC5FD2-e1625081275745.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2021\/06\/F266B7E9-B857-467C-BDA3-A90DE1EC5FD2-e1625081275745.jpeg 878w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2021\/06\/F266B7E9-B857-467C-BDA3-A90DE1EC5FD2-e1625081275745-300x177.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2021\/06\/F266B7E9-B857-467C-BDA3-A90DE1EC5FD2-e1625081275745-768x453.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2564\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jessica (far right) and her \u0391\u0393\u0394 sisters (2013).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Did you go to grad school? If so, where? Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait? Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, I did not go to grad school. My main tasks have been creating internal workflow tools for our agents to use, which relay our policies in polite, empathetic terms. I also do research on customer satisfaction, what drives dissatisfaction, and conduct experiments to see how we can improve our services for our agents and our customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My Liberal Arts\/COMM education definitely helped me understand how you will never escape group projects! (L) During Greek Week Lip Sync (2013) and (R) Homecoming Committee (2014).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a small, close-knit community. You never really feel away from home, plus you can get the personalized help you need in any subject.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What would you say a COMM student should absolutely do while at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If there is something communication related you want to study, but there isn&#8217;t a class dedicated to it, touch base with one of your professors to see if they&#8217;d sponsor an independent study with you.\u00a0 This will allow you to look further into the topic, and you might come out of it with a paper.\u00a0\u00a0I did an independent study on Social Media Trends &amp; Theories, which wasn&#8217;t a class while I was attending, and I thoroughly enjoyed!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What advice would you give someone who wants to go into the same line of work as you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Be incredibly vocal to your supervisor, manager or mentor about what your plans are for growth. Closed mouths don&#8217;t get fed, so if you don&#8217;t vocalize it, you won&#8217;t get anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Also be patient, I had to work in a call center as a phone representative for a few years before I finally found this position. Oh! Also how cheap rent was&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But really, the campus was beautiful, the community was so open and welcoming both in <a href=\"http:\/\/visitkirksville.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kirksville<\/a> and on campus. As Truman students, we all work incredibly hard and take pride in our work.\u00a0 When things don&#8217;t work out, we are really tough on ourselves.
