I participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Tsuillusiondanz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Illusions Dance Team<\/a> and co-founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/diversity.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minority Ambassadors Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UChkJe2kRZbqyBmfoopOwm8Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2263 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2020\/11\/KTRM-Studios-e1605118917459.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2020\/11\/KTRM-Studios-e1605118917459.jpg 852w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2020\/11\/KTRM-Studios-e1605118917459-300x117.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2020\/11\/KTRM-Studios-e1605118917459-768x300.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Did you go to grad school? If so, where?\u00a0 Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait?\u00a0 Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I attended The Chicago School of Professional Psychology for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. I entered the program in 2016 remotely and completed it in the summer of 2019 in my new home of Southern California on their Irvine, CA campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your first job after graduation?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Digital Associate for an agency called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truemediaservices.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">True Media<\/a> located in Columbia, MO.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What work do you do\/What are you doing now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Currently I\u2019m a media operations specialist at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dollarshaveclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dollar Shave Club<\/a>, a DTC company based in LA owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilever.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unilever<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2264\" style=\"width: 185px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2264\" class=\"wp-image-2264 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2020\/11\/Stephens-3-e1605119008663.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"260\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tay just hanging out (2019).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>My education gave me a strong work ethic and always provided me with assignments that were reflective of much of the work I face now. In addition, Truman is great about encouraging students to design their own experience.\u00a0 I think this teaches a valuable lesson of being a self-starter which is helpful for succeeding.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t have a class I truly hated, but <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=STAT&amp;filter%5B29%5D=190&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=13&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=612&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statistics<\/a> was never my friend. Ironically to earn my MA, I had to pass the course again and ended up falling in love with analysis. It is now a core function of my role.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My greatest accomplishment was founding an organization to recruit college students (<a href=\"https:\/\/diversity.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minority Ambassadors Program<\/a>) and watching it continue to grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Truman is a good close knit community that still offers a chance for students to explore. Truman also offers a unique experience where you\u2019re closer with your professors than many places I heard of.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What would you say a COMM student should <u>absolutely<\/u> do while at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Work for <a href=\"http:\/\/tmn.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">student media<\/a> in some capacity, it doesn\u2019t matter the outlet. At Mizzou many students have to wait until nearly Junior year to build up their resume, but Truman let\u2019s you join from day one. Take advantage of this.\u00a0 Many of the opportunities I had coming out of school happened becasue I worked in the student media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tmn.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-228 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2018\/01\/tmnlogoP1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What advice would you give someone who wants to go into the same line of work as you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Work hard, stay focused and be open to be taken off of the path you imagined, as long as the end destination is the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What do you miss most about campus\/Kirksville?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lunches in the SUB, waiting to see friends between class, and summers at <a href=\"https:\/\/mostateparks.com\/park\/thousand-hills-state-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thousand Hills<\/a>.
