Raised in Ballwin, MO, Jeremy attended Parkway West High School before attending Truman State University in the Fall of 2012. In addition to his major in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Communication<\/a>, Jeremy received minors in <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=15&amp;poid=2527\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spanish<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/political-science-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Political Science<\/a>. His political work has led him to positions in Wisconsin, Washington, D.C., and Iowa. If so, where?\u00a0 Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait?\u00a0 Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did not \u2013 which was the right decision for me. Steve Bullock (2019).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The eclectic nature of my post-college work has validated my liberal arts education. Outside of work ethic, there is nothing more important on the job than versatility, which is precisely how a liberal arts education prepares you to succeed.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had fundamental disagreements with my Film Critique class (I believe it had a different name, but for all sakes and purposes, that\u2019s what it was). Without that Truman experience, my professional path would have been drastically different \u2013 for the worse.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What would you say a COMM student should <u>absolutely<\/u> do while at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You should <u>absolutely<\/u> work for the <a href=\"http:\/\/tmn.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Truman Media Network<\/a>. There is no education better than hands-on learning, and there is no journalism education better than hands-on reporting. Even if your aspirations do not lie in journalism, you will gain an understanding of the journalism and public relations world that you could not otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What advice would you give someone who wants to go into the same line of work as you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Never forget the bigger picture. Too many communications strategies operate in day-to-day tactics built on fighting fires and making a quick hit \u2013 but you can\u2019t forget that most folks (in this case, voters) are too busy to keep up. Build relationships with your colleagues, be mindful and courteous, and support their success as if it were your own. Also, no one likes a braggert.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What do you miss most about campus\/Kirksville?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dukuminn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The DuKum Inn<\/a>. The course would move beyond press releases and teach the skills to build relationships with the press, respond to their inquiries, and teach strategies to ensure the most important message is reported.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What did we not ask that you think is important for people to know?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Suck it up and get a minor in a foreign language.
