Prior to that, she was an Academic Advisor in the School of Engineering at Southern Illinois University.\u00a0 Since graduating from Truman, she has completed her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Valdosta State University in Georgia.\u00a0 She currently resides in Saint Louis, MO raising her two-year-old son Ian.\u00a0 In the future, Alyse plans to follow her passion and work in a capacity that involves social change.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What year did you graduate and what was your concentration?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated in 2011 with a concentration in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Communication Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I served as chapter president of <a href=\"http:\/\/dstzetazeta.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Delta Sigma Theta<\/a> sorority from 2009 to 2011. I was diversity chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/senate.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Senate<\/a>. I also had the pleasure of being the chapter historian of the <a href=\"http:\/\/panhellenic.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Pan-Hellenic Council<\/a>. I was employed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/diversity.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Multicultural Affairs Center<\/a> as a student worker. \u00a0I served as a Student Advisor my junior year, and I was a part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mcnair.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ronald E. I was fortunate to be a part of the Ronald E. Once I received my Masters, I became an Academic Advisor at SIUE\u2019s school of engineering for roughly three and half years.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What work do you do\/What are you doing now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am currently working as a stock broker for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdameritrade.com\/home.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TD Ameritrade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I believed it really helped during my \u201cpostmodern\u201d graduate program. Because of my Liberal Arts\/COMM education, I was already familiar with a lot of postmodern ideas. I am, however, grateful that I took it because it gave me the opportunity to learn where my strengths are. In short, I now know I don\u2019t want to be a reporter.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My greatest accomplishment was when, as a part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mcnair.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">McNair<\/a> program, I was picked to present my research at a conference in Ithaca, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and graduating, of course.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Truman has an amazing faculty that takes the time to get to know you individually. In the professional field, customers\/clients look for competence. It is easy to want to know more about something that you care about. \u00a0With a degree in Communication, there are so many fields you can go into.\u00a0 The key is is to highlight your experiences, and with a COMM degree, your experiences are valued in many fields.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What do you miss most about campus\/Kirksville?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would have to say that more than anything I miss the close community feel.\u00a0 Anything I needed was not very far away.\u00a0 Truman also gives you access to a lot of resources and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What tag line would you create for the COMM department at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;COMM- It can get you anywhere!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">If you could come back to Truman and teach a class for a semester, what would be its title and what would it be about?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sexual Communication. It would be about how the media affects our ideas of sexuality, and the communication between partners.
