He is currently in his third year of law school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he focuses on family law and litigation. While at Truman, Taylor was very active on campus and in Democratic politics. His favorite color is blue and he loves to let people know that Britney Spears follows him on Twitter (<em>Editor&#8217;s note<\/em>: We have independently confirmed this statement).<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What year did you graduate and what was your concentration?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated in December of 2015 with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public communication<\/a> concentration.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was a member of <a href=\"http:\/\/pikappweb.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pi Kappa Phi<\/a> social fraternity, <a href=\"http:\/\/akpsi.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alpha Kappa Psi<\/a> business fraternity, and <a href=\"http:\/\/bluekey.truman.edu\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blue Key Honor Society<\/a>.\u00a0 I also worked for <a href=\"http:\/\/senate.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Government<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/tmn.truman.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Truman Media Network<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/csi.truman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Student Involvement<\/a> (CSI), and I was involved with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/academic-departments\/about-the-theatre-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Theatre Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Did you go to grad school? If so, where? Was it immediately after you left Truman or did you wait? Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m currently in my third year of law school at UMKC. I waited a couple years after graduating before going. himself in Democratic politics (2019).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I got involved in Democratic politics immediately out of college.\u00a0 I was a Finance Assistant for Jason Kander\u2019s 2016 US Senate campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What work do you do\/What are you doing now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a full time law student, but I work as the student assistant\/paralegal for the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.umkc.edu\/academics\/clinical-programs\/child-and-family-services-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Child and Family Services Clinic<\/a> in the UMKC School of Law.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m also a <a href=\"https:\/\/law.umkc.edu\/what-is-rule-13-certification-and-how-to-i-obtain-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rule 13<\/a> student attorney in the clinic and represent low-income clients.\u00a0 I\u2019m currently working to expand the Child and Family Services Clinic at UMKC to provide representation for transgender individuals in Jackson County who are seeking a name change or gender marker correction.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m also the Assistant Director for the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.umkc.edu\/youthcourt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Youth Court<\/a> which is a peer to peer diversion program for first time juvenile offenders.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">How has your Liberal Arts\/COMM education helped you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My COMM education has helped me in so many ways.\u00a0 It has made me a better public speaker and allows me to speak with confidence and thrive in the courtroom.\u00a0 Being a Communication major also made me a MUCH better writer.\u00a0 Both are essential skills if you&#8217;re working in the law.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1421\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1421\" class=\"wp-image-1421\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-4.jpg 2002w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-4-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-4-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1421\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taylor and friends (2019).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For me, that course was <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=COMM&amp;filter%5B29%5D=382&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=15&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=791&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Communication Theory<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;m glad I took it becasue I now have a much better understanding of people and how they work.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It would have to be becoming President of <a href=\"http:\/\/bluekey.truman.edu\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blue Key Honor Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1418\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1418\" class=\"wp-image-1418\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-2.jpg 1900w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-2-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-2-768x568.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2019\/07\/Thompson-2-1024x758.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1418\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taylor and his parents at graduation (2015).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Truman is a great place for a student to study because the university is truly invested in your success. Further, Truman has so many opportunities for leadership development and campus involvement. It\u2019s clich\u00e9, but I consider myself a lifelong learner and truly enjoyed going to class. I also miss how carefree and fun life at Truman was.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What tag line would you create for the COMM department at Truman?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m not here for a long time, but I\u2019m here for a COMM time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">If you could come back to Truman and teach a class for a semester, what would be its title and what would it be about?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Digital Organizing.
