In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her partner, Sohail, and her family, traveling for fun, and trying anything new. She loves to read, hike, craft, and try as many foods as she can.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What year did you graduate and what was your concentration? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated in 2011 with a concentration in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/majors-programs\/majors-minors\/communication-major\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Communication Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What extra-\/co-curricular activities did you do? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was a part of <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/LPHTSU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lambda Pi Eta<\/a>, helped to revamp the Chandler Monroe Oratorical Contest, and worked on a research project with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/faculty-staff\/bpoyner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Barry Poyner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/LPHTSU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-499 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2018\/05\/Publication1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2018\/05\/Publication1-1.jpg 782w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2018\/05\/Publication1-1-300x92.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.truman.edu\/commspotlight\/files\/2018\/05\/Publication1-1-768x237.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your first job after graduation? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I took a job as a catastrophe claims adjuster with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Farmers Insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What work do you do\/What are you doing now? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I own my own company and run property insurance claims for several different insurance companies all over the United States. My COMM degree is a major selling point when I am negotiating contracts \u2013 I have a deep understanding of how people going through a trauma might communicate, allowing me to be a better listener, and in turn, a better adjuster. Colleagues are often impressed that I am well versed in a lot of different fields, making my business relationships that much stronger.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Which class did you dislike at the time you took it, but now you\u2019re grateful you took it? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=MATH&amp;filter%5B29%5D=157&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=14&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=681&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trigonometry<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=SPAN&amp;filter%5B29%5D=202&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=14&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=681&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spanish<\/a>, most definitely. I swore up and down to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/faculty-staff\/selfjw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Self<\/a> I wouldn\u2019t need it . . . and now I\u2019m in a field where both come in handy quite often.\u00a0 (<em>Editor&#8217;s note<\/em>: We don&#8217;t want to say &#8220;We told you so,&#8221; but . . . )<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What was your greatest accomplishment at Truman? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My biggest accomplishment was graduating through several setbacks and with an unseen disability, while also working two jobs consistently throughout my education. I am also very proud of the work I did with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truman.edu\/faculty-staff\/bpoyner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Poyner<\/a> on the research into the <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.truman.edu\/content.php?filter%5B27%5D=COMM&amp;filter%5B29%5D=170&amp;filter%5Bcourse_type%5D=-1&amp;filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&amp;filter%5B32%5D=1&amp;filter%5Bcpage%5D=1&amp;cur_cat_oid=14&amp;expand=&amp;navoid=681&amp;search_database=Filter#acalog_template_course_filter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Public Speaking<\/a> course.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">Why is Truman a good place for a student to study? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Truman provides so many opportunities for you to be the kind of student you want to be. Building relationships with your professors and other students. The Truman legacy lasts well after college and you can find yourself calling on someone to help you work through a tough solution.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What advice would you give someone who wants to go into the same line of work as you? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start with a company that is willing to train you, and take every opportunity you can to learn. Learn to be empathetic, but not to internalize. You can help a lot of people, but only if you can take care of yourself first. Finally, practice making decisions and backing them up \u2013 and when they are wrong, learn from them. Indecisiveness can be a downfall!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">What do you miss most about campus\/Kirksville? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, my friends. We were incredibly close, and they made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitkirksville.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kirksville<\/a> special. Even now, eight years post-graduation, we get together every couple of years and pick up where we left off.
