Shannon\u2019s paper, entitled \u201cFriendship in Horace\u2019s\u00a0<em>Satires,<\/em>\u201d analyzes uses of friendship words \u2013\u00a0<em>amicus\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>amicitia<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 by the Roman author Horace as conveying a deep sense of doubt about friendship as a means for Epicurean contentment, and doubts about Rome\u2019s social structure and stability as Augustus consolidated power after a period of successive civil wars. Written in an undergraduate Latin class to fulfill her Latin minor, Shannon\u2019s paper will be published in 2022.
