Danielle Buckner’s TruScholars Project

April 24, 2024

Danielle Buckner, a pre-MAE Spanish student, is working with Dr. Stacy Davis on her TruScholars project this summer (2024). Her project, “Student Engagement Strategies: Creating Effective and Engaging Lessons in the L2 (Spanish) Classroom,” tackles apathy in the language classroom. Given that teachers are challenged with holding students’ attention and making content accessible, relevant, and engaging for (often disinterested) students, Danielle’s project investigates how do we teach students who do not want to be taught? She will examine relevant second language acquisition research on student learning and then pair this knowledge with strategies for effective teaching and assessment proposed in a series of recent education manuals to share techniques and instructional practices that will make lessons more engaging for language students.
