Truman State University Academic Innovation Award: Stacy Davis and Michelle Boyd

Congratulations to Stacy Davis and Michelle Boyd, Fall 2020 winners of the Truman State University Academic Innovation Award. In “‘Flipping’ the Language Classroom: Using Flipgrid to Increase Student Participation,” Dr. Davis examines the use of Flipgrid, a free social learning platform, that allows for more student communication in the target language outside of the classroom. With this tool, her students record themselves in videos responding to directed questions, as well as leave video feedback and reactions to their classmates’ posts. The more personalized interaction between students/students and students/instructor empowers her learners to use Spanish in more interactive discussion boards for the type of interpersonal communication crucial to language acquisition.
