UNITED SPEAKERS SAYS “A bientôt”!May 11, 2019
Truman’s student-led English as a Second Language organization, United Speakers, had an exciting 2018-2019 academic year. Thanks to a $500 grant from the Foreign Language Association of Missouri, United Speakers was able to purchase instructional materials and supplies for the classes they teach in four different locations. One exciting purchase, a new projector for the Milan, MO class, will help the student teachers improve their teaching style and provide their students with a new way to learn. In February, United Speakers won second place in the Student Giving Campaign, a Truman-led event in which students donate money to one of three organizations. This campaign has allowed United Speakers to easily reimburse drivers, buy more supplies, and purchase more diverse textbooks for their various levels of learners. United Speakers has grown tremendously this academic year as a result of this funding, and in Fall 2020 we will continue to teach English so that the immigrants in the Kirksville area have the opportunity to flourish in the United States.
