United Speakers chosen to be part of the Student Giving Campaign

United Speakers chosen to be part of the Student Giving Campaign at Truman (February 25-March 1st) !

United Speakers is an on-campus organization at Truman State University (TSU) that provides free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to the Adair County Community. We teach five classes per week at three different locations. The students we teach are predominantly French-speaking immigrants from Central Africa as well as Spanish-speaking immigrants from Central America. United Speakers is completely student run, which means TSU students plan the lessons, buy the teaching material, and teach the lessons. United Speakers is a small organization of dedicated student-teachers who teach English to equally dedicated students, who take time out of their busy work schedules to come to English classes. In order to improve our ability to effectively teach our students we will need more resources, such as textbooks, workbooks, classroom supplies, and hopefully a projector for one of our out-of-date classrooms. Furthermore, United Speakers would also like to host community outreach events open to TSU students, our ESL students, and everyone in the community to facilitate cultural exchanges and relationships. Thus with the help of the Student Giving Campaign, United Speakers can extend our outreach, gain teaching resources, and remain sustainable for many years to come. Your contribution of $5 or more would gain us the chance to win a grand total of $2,000. We appreciate all contributions, thank you for your support and for making the work we do possible.
