Make the most of your summer!!May 11, 2015
Ahhhhh…summer is here, or at least spring semester is over and summer is coming soon! So, what are your plans?
It is so much fun to live vicariously through your great experiences. I heard today about an amazing camp job in New Hampshire that has me envisioning scenes from On Golden Pond, and if you have no knowledge of that movie from the past, check it out. Several of you have shared your international travel plans which make me thirst for an opportunity to visit another country and culture. One student who has been interning with an airline in Texas this semester has been taking full advantage of the travel perks that the position offers by taking weekend trips to various parts of the country and even an island or two. I could go on and on but I just want to say thank you for sharing your plans and adventures!
Many of you have secured amazing internships and jobs for the summer and there is no doubt those can change your life and sometimes your career path. There is nothing like actually working in a career field to find out if you like the day-to-day environment. I won’t get preachy here about the value of internships but suffice it to say, they are incredibly important! However, an internship is not all about the work. You also get to meet new, like-minded people and widen your circle of friends. You get to talk to professionals in the career paths you are considering, learn about their journey and gain sage advice to help you along your way.
For those of you who are now new Truman alums, CONGRATULATIONS! I have had the opportunity to get to know some of you pretty well during your time at Truman and encourage you to keep in touch with the friends you have made here. College is a special time and Truman is a special place. As you look back, I am sure you can attest to that fact that it goes pretty quickly.
For those of you leaving town but returning in August, we will keep the light on for you in Kirksville and look forward to seeing your back on campus! If you are staying in Kirksville for the summer, know there are lots of things to do here too. You can even drop by the Career Center to see us from time to time.
Enjoy your summers, everyone!
