Prof. Kelsey Wiskirchen received her BFA in Fibers from Truman
\nState University in 2009.  In May 2012,
\nKelsey completed her MFA in Fibers at the Herberger Institute for Design and
\nthe Arts at Arizona State University.   We
\nare thrilled to have this Alumni return!  Welcome back, Kelsey!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In 2010, Kelsey traveled to Bolivia to volunteer with
\nProjecto Artesania Zona Andina<\/a>, a women\u2019s weaving
\ncooperative.  While there, Kelsey was
\ninspired by the empowerment that the women in the cooperative achieved through
\nweaving.  In 2011, Kelsey received a
\nNathan Cummings Travel Fellowship to spend the summer in South Africa with the
\nMapusha Weaving Cooperative<\/a>. 
\nThere, she learned tapestry rug weaving from the women in the
\ncooperative. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Continuing to learn and to teach others about textiles
\nhas become Kelsey\u2019s focus.  In addition
\nto teaching Fibers at Truman State University, Kelsey volunteers with community
\ngroups to help women find healing and empowerment through Fiber Art.  She is also the 2012 Artist-in-Residence at
\nCraft Alliance<\/a> in St. Louis, Missouri, where she teaches community classes in
\nFibers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Kelsey\u2019s current studio work focuses on tradition and
\nconnection between women through stories. 
\nShe utilizes weaving and embroidery to document experiences shared by
\nwomen and preserve the stories created therein. 
\nKelsey\u2019s work will be exhibited in the Truman Art Gallery<\/a> from September
\n4 to October 2.  <\/p>\n
