Colloquium

The first Math Colloquium of the year will be 3:30 on Tuesday, September 28, in room VH1228.  Don Bindner will be talking on Things Math Students Should Know.  Refreshments will be provided.  The abstract for the talk is as follows.

Are there tips you might give to a budding new mathematics student? Are there jokes they should know, or hints you would share about the way we do things in our field of study? Would you suggest they get to know certain pieces of software or tell them to learn how to program? Dr. Bindner and Dr. Erickson have a book coming out this fall called A Students Guide to the Study, Practice, and Tools of Modern Mathematics. Come find out a bit about the process of getting a mathematics book published, and learn something that they think mathematics students should hear about.
