Academic Classroom VCR Support Ends at Winter Break – VCRs will be Removed from Classrooms

October 29, 2014

This is a reminder that academic classroom VCR support ends at winter break, approximately eight weeks from now.  Any remaining classroom VCRs will be removed at that time.  If you have not already updated your VCR/VHS based materials to a newer format, you need to do so right away.

In our previous communications (March, October and December 2013), we shared that the Pickler Media Library has been replacing many of the educational and feature film VHS titles with DVD format media.  If you have VCR/VHS based materials that you still need to replace please contact Sharon Hackney at 785-7366 or shackney@truman.edu to make arrangements.

The ITS Service Center and the Learning Technologies staff can also provide guidance to anyone needing to make their VCR based academic materials available in DVD format.  There are many issues present when dealing with copyrighted materials; copyright law, the TEACH Act, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act etc., and we will work with you to help you find the best legal solution for your existing VCR based materials.

We do recognize that there may be some instances where a VCR player is still needed on occasion, and the Pickler Library classroom (PL103) will be available as a group media viewing room (i.e., if needed, you can reserve this room to play VHS tapes).

If you have any questions please contact the ITS Service Center at x4544.
