Faculty Workshop Series for Fall 2013 Announced

The Learning Technologies Team in conjunction with Dana Vazzana, Director of Academic Professional Development are pleased to announce a Fall Semester lineup of workshops for faculty focused on a variety of topics, ranging from advising, to scholarship, to teaching with technology.  The workshops will be held on the following dates:

  • On Monday, September 30 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. we will have a workshop in PML 103 on Advising and DegreeWorks.  Coffee and cookies will be available.  Come learn how the Center for Academic Excellence Advisors use Degree Works and TruView to track advisees’ progress through their first semesters.  See where advising notes from previous advisors can be accessed by current student advisors, and how the intricacies of Degree Works can help students and faculty advisors build and explore four-year plans.  Andrea Maag from the Center for Academic Excellence and Charisse Hatfield from the Registrar’s Office will guide this hands on workshop and try to answer questions faculty advisors (both new and returning) might have about tracking their advisees’ progress through the Truman LSP and beyond!  No formal RSVP is necessary, but if you would like to receive a reminder email on the day of the event, please enter your email address here: DegreeWorks Workshop Reminder .
  • On Wednesday, October 9th at 12:30 in PML103From Traditional to Tradigital and Everything In Between:  Diane and Susan will discuss the strengths and drawbacks to different delivery methods, including face to face teaching, flipped classrooms, blended learning, fully online delivery, as well as MOOCs that seem to be a buzzword these days.  Learn when it might be appropriate to infuse your course with more or less technology.
  • On Thursday, October 17 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. we will have an APDC Lunch in the SUB Georgian Room C.  Vicky Wehner, Disability Services Coordinator, will present “Was This In My Contract?”   She will discuss the added responsibilities of providing accommodations to students with disabilities and the continuum of basic accommodations, such as note takers, through behavioral issues in the classroom.  Sandwiches from Blimpie will be served, or you may bring your own lunch.   • On Wednesday, October 23rd at 12:30 in PML103Tablet Use in Education.  You see them everywhere – iPads, Kindles, Andriod and Windows tablets.  Are they beneficial in the classroom?  Join Diane and Susan as they explore the use of different applications using a tablet for education.
  • On Tuesday, October 29 from 3:00-4:00pm we will have an APDC Coffee in the SUB Alumni Room.  James Guffey,  Professor of Statistics, will present “Keep Your Eye on the Ball: Maintaining Students’ Attention in the Classroom”.  Coffee and cookies will be served.  No formal RSVP is necessary, but if you would like to receive a reminder email on the day of the event, please enter your email address here: Request for reminder .
  • On November 6th at 12:30 in PML103There’s an App for That! Diane and Susan will share their Top 10 List of Free Educational apps and software, such as Animoto, JotForm, Piktochart, and more!
  • On November 20th at 12:30 in PML1032013 ECAR Study Results. Learn what our students had to say in this year’s ECAR Study on the use of technology in education.
