Devin Johnson to teach an Upward Bound Spanish course this summer.

April 6, 2022

Devin Johnson (B.A. French ‘22; MAE-FL instruction ‘24) has recently been chosen to teach an Upward Bound Spanish course this summer. Upward Bound is a federally-funded TRIO program that assists qualifying high school students in building the skills and motivation necessary for college success. Upward Bound does this by providing students with academic skill development, tutoring, college/career assistance and social/cultural exposure through a year-round support program for senior high school students. Truman State University offers a traditional Upward Bound program to selected northeast Missouri area high school students on our campus. https://ub.truman.edu/what-is-ub/

Working with his mentor, Dr. Stacy Davis, Devin is continuing the long line of strong Classical and Modern Language students who have participated in this program, teaching language and culture to represent the excellence of our department. As a French major, Applied Linguistics and Spanish minor, Devin has experience working with Congolese students in Kirksville learning English. They plan on teaching French and ESOL in the future; this is a wonderful opportunity. Congratulations Devin!! #Bulldogexcellence
