Spanish Immersion Weekend April 5-6

Spanish Immersion Weekend April 5-6

February 12, 2019

The Department of Classical and Modern Languages will hold its annual Spanish Immersion Weekend this year on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at Camp Jo-Ota in Clarence, Missouri. Drs. Stacy Davis and José Carreño-Medina will travel with twelve participants to the campsite where they will spend a weekend completely immersed in speaking Spanish! Culinary activities include making red beans and rice, learning how to cook a Spanish omelet, known as tortilla de patatas, preparing homemade guacamole and more. Students will have several discussion activities and will participate in a screening of Alfonso Cuarón’s award winning movie, Roma (2018). Many activities will be outdoors, ranging from playing basketball and soccer to frisbee, taking a hike, as well as a competitive word game of BASTA! Through the experience, Truman students spend some quality time with their favorite professors and improve their fluency as they dedicate a weekend to speaking only in the target language.
