Salsa lesson at Geno’s

Salsa lesson at Geno’s

April 25, 2017

On Saturday, April 9th, Drs. Andrea Nate and Sergio Escobar taught a $1 salsa lesson at Geno’s, the local 70’s dance club, with all proceeds going toward Truman’s brand new Club Ñ. The lesson was then followed by Geno’s monthly Latino Night, in which a DJ plays a blend of traditional music from all around the Spanish-speaking world, ranging from flamenco pop to bachata to salsa to merengue to cumbia. It was a great opportunity for students to mingle with the (semi)local latino community members from Kirksville and the surrounding areas.  Truman and A.T. Still students were able to practice their conversational Spanish while showing off their freshly minted dance skills. The event gave everyone the opportunity to experience a vibrant culture in a way that many of them had never been privy to before: through the unique perspective that comes from music and dancing.
