Barnes Receives Excellence in Teaching Award

May 8, 2019

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Barnes who was awarded the 2019 School of Business Excellence in Teaching Award!

1) Any general thanks you want to give for this award?

“I could thank literally hundreds of people: faculty, staff, students, and friends.  My biggest thanks would be to my family back in Oklahoma.  I love and miss them, but they wholeheartedly support the work that I am doing here at Truman State.”

2) Favorite memory of teaching here at Truman?

“Too many to count.  Some of my favorite moments have come from talking to students about important lessons in my life and career; such as my Accounting Capstone class visits every semester and my presentation with Dr. Kaden on shortcuts at the Beta Alpha Psi banquet this year.”

3) Favorite superhero and why?

“Professor Charles Xavier: The original “Dr. X”.

Also, Spider-Man: “With great power comes great responsibility.”  Despite my distinct lack of superhero skills, Stan Lee’s immortal words are a constant reminder that I have a duty to put others before myself.”
