Internship Spotlight: Haley Meissen, Senior Business Administration Major (Management Concentration), Communication MinorOctober 4, 2018
This summer, Haley Meissen served as an HR/Corporate Recruiting – Driving Intern for Dot Foods at their headquarters in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Haley shared the following about her internship: “I completed phone screenings with (truck) driving applicants, formed recommendations on whether or not to move forward past the phone screen with a candidate, scheduled interviews, and served as a representative for the company by answering questions and encouraging people to apply for Dot’s driving positions. In addition, my intern project was to create a model for and calculate Dot Foods’ Cost-Per-Hire. At the end of the summer, I presented my findings to several managers.
I learned a lot about recruiting and the hiring process, as well as more about how all the parts of a company come to work together. Dot offered trainings for all interns on Food Redistribution, Excel, and professional development. We also had a Networking Event with managers, attended a Quincy Gems baseball game and Dot’s annual Forklift Rodeo, and — my favorite– completed a High Ropes Course at Horn Campus Field.
I met several Dot Recruiters at the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 Career & Internship Expos. I greatly enjoyed speaking with them at Truman, and from there my resume was sent on to the hiring manager. After going through the application and interview process, I was hired! I greatly enjoyed my internship with Dot Foods: they are a great, family-owned company with a strong mission.”
