Over the past two and a half years, Truman State University’s Bulldog Student Investment Fund (BSIF) has seen a tremendous jump in growth, activity, and success. Entering the second half of their third academic year on campus, the group has aspirations of sending a group of student analysts and a competition team to the annual RISE Forum at the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. The group was able to send eight members last year to observe the professional speakers and participate in the small breakout sessions with investment professionals. This year, however, their aspirations are set on competing against other universities with their student managed investment portfolio. However, the costs of doing so appeared to be steep.
However, with the generous support of alumna Mindy McCubbin and Shelter Insurance of Columbia, MO, BSIF appears ready to take on the competition challenge with a larger delegation of Student Analysts. On November 6th, 2013 Truman State University’s Bulldog Student Investment Fund was awarded a $7,500 grant from The Shelter Insurance Foundation during a guest visit from Mrs. McCubbin. Her encouraging words of support and advice on investment strategies served to motivate the 21 Student Analysts in the organization as they begin to prepare for the next big step in the short history of BSIF. BSIF will compete at the RISE Forum in Dayton, OH March 27-28, 2013. For more information on the RISE Forum, visit http://www.udayton.edu/business/rise/
