Banner 9 Admin Pages & Lightweight Applications Update 3

Banner 9 Admin pages

Overall the Banner 9 Admin pages (the replacement for Banner 9 INB/Administrative Forms) testing is complete. We have an area still working on their testing and we have a few problem logs that are still open. The testing went very well. Included in the Admin pages testing were a number of both Banner 8x and Banner 9x upgrades. These upgrades were all required to get the system to the level we need it to be to support the version of Banner 9 needed for our production release. Since the testing has concluded, we’ve also applied a small number of patched to fix reported issues and a few releases for newly released Banner 8x upgrades that will be required by the end of this calendar year for compliance reporting. We have added these new releases into a fresh test instance and we are working with the areas responsible for these modules to complete a new round of testing.

All the involved upgrades (see the attachment for details – first page is the summary typically handed out to the I-Team) need to be applied to Banner ADMIN (production) prior to us begin able to complete the Banner 9 environment build. We are scheduling this required upgrade for Sunday, September 17th, starting at 4am. The backup weekend, should there need to be one, is Sunday, September 24th. There are several steps and a variety of types of upgrades that are all combined in this upgrade so we aren’t sure how long the upgrade will take. We will ask campus to plan for the system to be down until 5pm. Campus announcements will go out about this upgrade as we get closer to the date.

Next Steps:

  1. Complete the required upgrade
  2. Complete the Banner 9 ADMIN and HARRY environment builds
  3. Release Banner 9 ADMIN and HARRY as a pilot to the Integration Team testing teams

The target for releasing the pilot environment to the Integration Team pilot teams is the week of October 2nd. More information will be coming about the progress towards this.

Banner 9 Lightweight applications

The Steering Committee received a report on the status of the lightweight applications review from the Project Manager including the review and analysis reports that had been submitted. At this time, the lightweight application project sub-teams statuses are as follows:

  • Finance Purchase Requisition: Completed Review. Recommended to not implement at this time due to concerns with the current functionality. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Direct Deposit: Completed Review. Recommended to not implement at this time due to concerns with the current functionality. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Employee Profile: Completed Review. Recommended to move to pilot. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Position Description: Completed Review. Recommended to not implement at this time. Will require a large work effort to build the support information needed to implement this app. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Event Management: Review put on hold. Will consider review after Admin Pages have been successfully implemented. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Communication Management: Review put on hold. Will consider review after Admin Pages have been successfully implemented. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Registration: Completed Review. Recommended to move to pilot. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.
  • Advising Student Profile: Completed Review. Recommended to move to pilot. Steering Committee accepted this recommendation.

The caveat to the Steering Committee’s acceptance of the recommendations for piloting is that first priority of the project is given to completing the Admin Pages upgrade, next comes the Registration pilot, and the third priority will be the Employee Profile and the Advising Student Profile.
