E-Team Succeeds at Hunt Regionals/ZonesApril 14, 2014
Members of the Truman State Equestrian Team traveled to Wisconsin for IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) Hunt Regionals and Zones last weekend. Regionals took place on Saturday, April 12 and Zones was held the following day, Sunday, April 13.
Though the team had to endure the rain, the girls were able to support one another and make great memories throughout the weekend. The girls had a chance to meet IHSA founder Bob Cacchione as he made his rounds, greeting parents, coaches, and riders, during the show. Parents were also in attendance, supporting their daughters during their rides.
At Regionals members of the team showed in several classes, including Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation, Novice equitation on the flat, Novice Equitation over Fences, and Open Equitation over Fences.
Junior, agriculture major Melissa Colby placed first in the Walk/Trot/Canter class. Colby qualified for Zones with her first place ride. She was joined in the class by fellow team members: seniors Anna Lotts (placing fifth) and Megan LaFollette (placing seventh), and junior Christina Iacovino (placing tenth).
Junior Jennifer Marks took third in Novice Equitation on the Flat. Junior Annina McMillan placed fifth and senior Jenna Hurty placed sixth. In Novice Equitation over Fences, Hurty placed third, riding a second time for the day.
Junior Elizabeth Miller placed first in Open Equitation over Fences. Miller also qualified for Zones in Open Equitation on the Flat, but chose not to ride the class because she was the only rider entered for the class on Saturday.
Colby and Miller both competed in Zones on Sunday. Colby placed first in her class (Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation), qualifying for Nationals. Miller took fourth in Open Equitation on the Flat and seventh in Open Equitation over Fences. Miller also qualified for Nationals, being awarded Highest Placed Open Rider over the course of the semester. Nationals will be held May 1 through May 4 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
